Practical Suggestions for Success

Preparing for a newborn portrait session involves creating a comfortable environment for both parents, ensuring a smooth experience, and capturing timeless, beautiful images for generations to come. Consider these tips for success.

Time

We usually schedule a photoshoot for infants within the first fourteen days of your infant's life, but the first seven days are ideal. Babies become more active and less flexible when they reach fourteen days old.

Newborn acne and colic are also likely to flare up after that time. It affects the result of your newborn photos, and we don't prefer to do some retouching on baby skin.

Location

Newborn sessions usually take place in my studio, but we can take them outdoors if the weather is good. We also offer in-home infant photography sessions if you prefer. Choose a location where you and your baby feel comfortable and relaxed.

Let me know if you want to come to my studio to get your newborn portraits taken or have your lifestyle infant photo shoot in your home.

Props

You don't have to worry about props when you come to my studio. I always come prepared. I also have a prop addiction, so I have plenty of all that cute baby stuff in my stash. But, of course, you may also bring any special items that you'd like me to use for the newborn shoot.

If you opt to have the newborn pictorial at home, please gather any family heirlooms, toys, hats, or other props you would like me to use before we arrive. We may not get the chance to use all of the items, but we'll look through them with you to determine what will work best.

Outfit

Naked newborn photos are my personal favorites. So, there is no need to worry about dressing up your baby for those shots. As for you and your loved ones, I suggest you wear something comfortable. You want to feel at ease and relaxed during the photo shoot.

Keep it simple. Throw in a little color if you'd like, but skip the busy patterns. Put on some light make up and do your hair. We provide a client closet if you need to dress up for the session. Consider strapless top or tank as an alternative. We are big fans of skin-on-skin newborn family photos.

Safety

You can trust that we will make sure to keep your baby safe throughout the entire session. Your baby's safety is my top priority. We only schedule one newborn session per day. This allows us to dedicate all of our time and attention to capturing the perfect photos of your little one.

We also understand that your baby is going to be in the buff for some of this shoot. I provide multiple blankets and waterproof pads for all those accidents that will happen during the shoot. We wash all of our baby props and blankets between each session with non-scented baby detergent.

Final Thoughts

Capturing those early moments with your newborn is a treasure that lasts a lifetime. From the tender cuddles to tiny yawns, each photo tells a story you'll cherish forever. With careful planning and attention to detail, we ensure your newborn photo sessions are a stress-free and joyful experience.
