A Season of Growth, Gratitude, and Grace

This fall was a whirlwind. I photographed 25 schools, 3,200+ children, and 80+ families and seniors. That adds up to more than 600,000+ photos captured, culled, and edited.

It was a season overflowing with joy and connection—the kind of moments that remind me why I love this work. But somewhere between the late-night edits and the back-to-back galleries, I realized just how much of myself I had poured into these months. I found myself tired in the best way—the kind of tired that comes from meaningful work, but also the kind that says, “It’s time to rest.”

The Heart Behind the Lens

I am profoundly grateful for every person who stepped in front of my camera.

  • Every preschool grin and shy hug.

  • Every hopeful parent.

  • Every family showing up in the middle of their real, busy lives.

These moments are my "why." However, photographing at this scale also highlighted a vital truth: the work matters, and because it matters, the person behind the camera must be cared for, too.

Lessons From a Full Season

This year was a masterclass in balancing creativity with sustainability. As I head into my off-season, I’m carrying forward a few key lessons:

  • Systems & Preparation: Strong systems support a great client experience. This winter, I’m refining my workflow—from email automation to ensuring my hard drives and lighting gear are primed for the next rush. Preparation is the best cure for stress.

  • Embracing the Unexpected: From technical glitches to cranky toddlers and changing weather, flexibility is a photographer’s greatest tool.

  • Rest Protects Creativity: I used to think burnout was a sign of weakness. Now I know it often comes from giving wholeheartedly without refilling your own cup. Rest isn't a luxury; it’s essential for delivering the quality my clients deserve.

Looking Ahead

Next year, I am committed to building more balance into my business. This means clearer boundaries and a schedule that supports both my clients and my family—without sacrificing the heart of my work.

To every parent, teacher, and student I photographed: Thank you. Your trust and patience carried me through my busiest stretch yet. It is a genuine honor to capture your stories.

Moving Forward

This winter, I’m hitting the reset button. I’m taking time to quiet my mind and rekindle the creative spark that makes photography feel magical. The next season will bring fresh energy, refined systems, and more room to breathe.

To any fellow photographer feeling the weight of a busy season: Give yourself permission to rest. Your creativity will flourish for it.
