What to Expect from Your Newborn Photography Session
Capturing the littlest details of your biggest love.
Your journey into parenthood has just begun, and already everything is changing. Those sleepless nights, quiet cuddles, and the way your baby curls perfectly into your arms—it’s all part of this fleeting, beautiful season. And while your phone is probably full of snapshots already, there’s something deeply meaningful about taking time to intentionally document your newborn’s earliest days.
So, what exactly is a newborn session?
Newborn photography is designed to capture your baby in those first few weeks of life—ideally between 5 and 14 days old. At this stage, babies are still sleepy and curly, which allows us to gently pose them and document their tiniest features: wrinkly toes, fuzzy shoulders, button noses, and those perfect little fingers. This is the time when they are still so new—before they stretch out, wake up a bit more, and grow before your eyes.
When should I book my newborn session?
Because these sessions are time-sensitive, I highly recommend booking during your second or early third trimester. I only take a limited number of newborns each month to ensure I have room in my schedule once your baby arrives. We’ll pencil in your due date and adjust as needed once baby makes their debut.
Where does the session happen?
You can choose between a cozy, light-filled studio session, or I can come to your home for a lifestyle session. Both options allow us to keep the focus on your baby and the love that surrounds them. The studio provides a calm, styled environment with everything we need at hand, while in-home sessions offer a relaxed, personal feel—perfect for including big siblings or pets, or for simply being in your own space.
What are the benefits of a professional newborn session?
Yes, your baby is changing daily—but what you might not realize is how quickly you’ll forget just how tiny they were in those first days. A newborn session freezes time for you. These photos become treasured memories—something you’ll revisit again and again as your baby grows.
You’ll also receive:
Professional guidance (no need to stress about posing or lighting)
A carefully prepared space with everything we need for baby’s comfort
A variety of props, wraps, and textures—plus the option to include your own sentimental items
The option to include siblings and parents in the session
What should we bring if we’re doing a studio session?
Diapers (more than you think!)
Formula or supplies if you’re nursing (sessions take time and baby will likely feed more than once)
A change of clothes for you (the studio is warm to keep baby comfy)
Any special items or props you’d like to include (optional)
I also provide a curated collection of props— wraps, hats, headbands, and more—so there’s no pressure to bring anything at all.
Can we include siblings or family poses?
Absolutely. Sibling photos are one of my favorite parts of a session, and I have plenty of tricks to gently guide even the busiest toddlers into sweet, natural moments with their new baby. If you're including siblings, it’s often best to have someone bring them in toward the end of the session. Not all packages include family or sibling poses, so we’ll make sure to talk about what’s best for your family when you book.
When will we see our images?
Your edited gallery will be ready within 2–3 weeks after your session. You’ll receive a private online gallery where you can view, download, and choose your favorite images for printing or heirloom albums.
And yes—I offer professional prints and products, and I highly recommend ordering through me to ensure color accuracy and print quality, especially for wall art or gifts.
Let’s freeze time together.
Your baby will never be this small again—but your photos will hold onto these tiny moments forever. If you’re expecting and ready to reserve your newborn session, reach out here or send me a message. I can’t wait to help you remember just how little they once were.
